BIOGRAPHY
Natalie Turner is a Mezzo-Soprano from Warwick, Rhode Island, and is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Vocal Performance at the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins. Natalie specializes in “pants roles” or roles where mezzo-sopranos portray young men. Her statuesque height and love of acting allow Natalie to dive into these roles with ease. Recently, Natalie had the pleasure of portraying the iconic “pants role” of Cherubino from Le Nozze di Figaro with the Saluzzo Opera Academy in Saluzzo, Italy. Natalie’s natural comedic personality flourished with Cherubino receiving a standing ovation for her performance.
In February, Natalie performed the role of Hansel in Nicholas Hersh’s new jazz reduction of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel with the Peabody Institute and Annapolis Opera Company. This production is specifically curated to engage children in Opera. Natalie has always been passionate about spreading the joy of classical music, performing regularly at her home parish in Rhode Island St. Greg’s.
One Sunday in January 2022, St. Greg’s announced that it needed a new roof for the Church. It had been neglected for years and was going to cost the church thousands of dollars. After that Mass, Natalie went home and brainstormed the idea of a benefit concert, soon this idea became the Raise the Roof Concert. The concert focused on young musicians in the music ministry. Utilizing her graphic design skills Natalie designed fliers and arranged a set list. The concert was a rousing success, raising $10,000 and creating a stronger community with the music ministry. Natalie’s true passion is building community through classical music.
